URBEX SEND-OFF:
Prayer for our Urbex teams before they head out to take the gospel into the cities of our nation. (March 11th @ 8pm in the Mill)
“Urban Experience” is the opportunity for students to participate in the Mission of Christ throughout Urban America with College Life during spring break. On these week long trips, students become a part of what Jesus is doing to “reconcile all things to himself” in America’s most influential and fertile mission field: major metropolitan cities. History shows us that the more urban a city is, the more dense the population, the more pluralistic, the more ethnically diverse, the more Christianity can flourish when faithful Christians engage the city with the gospel through words and deeds. From serving in homeless shelters… to ministering to AIDS victims in hospice care centers… to rebuilding homes in storm damaged communities… to leading back yard bible clubs for kids… etc… - Urban Experience provides collegians a chance to redeem their spring breaks by fulfilling the great commission across our country.
In 2008, College Life will be sending students to the following cities…
- Seattle, Washington
- San Francisco, California
- Los Angeles, California
- Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Chicago, Illinois
- St. Louis, Missouri
- New York, New York
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Washington, D.C
- New Orleans, Louisiana (*if needed)
- Memphis, Tennessee (*if needed)
Sign-ups for these trips are now on Tuggle. Deadline to sign-up is December 14th, 2007.
FAQ’s…
Q: How much does it cost?A: Each student must pay a personal deposit of $100 at the first Urban Experience meeting after Christmas Break (meeting date TBA). The remaining cost must be paid for by support raising and fundraising just like all missionaries do! We will coach you in raising support. God can do it!Q: Can I choose the city I want to go to?A: Our priority is to keep Life Groups together as best as we can. Because of this, we cannot allow individuals to sign up wherever they want. Every city has amazing ministry opportunities, as well as challenging experiences.Q: Is it safe?
A: We will be working with seasoned inner-city ministries and workers that know the city well and how to get along as safely as possible. Urban Experience trips have always placed a high value and priority on safety. However, it still must be noted that there is a certain risk involved in urban areas, but hey, aren’t you risking your life every time you get into a car?!
Remember, we act with wisdom and walk by faith. Jesus never promised following Him would be safe- but He did promise that He is in control, and He is good. (and to any parents reading this, your kids will be in good hands… if that is what you are asking)
Q: Will I get to do tourist activities and have fun in the big city?
A: This is by no means a vacation. It can be hard work, will be uncomfortable at times, and is always focused on the Mission of Christ. With that said, of course you will have fun!! Just ask anyone who has gone before! What could be more exciting than being God’s ambassador and playing a part in His mission for eternity?!
