Why Summer Missions?
Why should I take time off work, potentially delay my graduation, and leave my friends and family so that I can go to another country, eat food that I can’t even identify, and try to love people I may not even be able to communicate clearly with. Additionally, some of you may be wondering why you should go to another city or another country when you could be sharing the gospel with people here in Denton who have never heard the gospel.
The ultimate reason why we participate in missions is that God, as the infinite creator of everything, is worthy to be worshipped. As Psalm 113:3-4 says “From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the LORD is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens.”
The second reason as to why we do missions is that there are literally thousands of people everyday who die without the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. There are many places in our world today where millions of people may never even meet a believer who can share the saving gospel of Christ with them.
While we believe that God is sovereign over the salvation of all people, we also believe that Scripture is clear that salvation comes through the preaching of the word and that preaching is done through the sending out of believers (Romans 10:13-15).
As Christians, we are given the command to (Matthew 28:19-20), and the privilege of, being a part of God’s eternal plan for the salvation of people from “every tribe and tongue and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9).
This is why CollegeLife is involved in missions. We believe that God is worthy and that the Gospel is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16).
